Car Insurance Overseas

Does your insurance cover mean that you can drive abroad? The answer is that it will usually depend upon the exact nature of the cover that you have taken out. That may not seem like a very obvious answer, but the reality is that different insurance companies will take differing approaches to this issue.

If you are intending to take your car abroad then you should certainly contact your insurance provider to let them know. There may be a cost involved.

Changing circumstances

As we’ve seen throughout this section, there are many, many factors that will have an impact on the cost of your motor insurance. Some of these will relate to the car that you drive, but others may be more about where you live, or your personal circumstances.

As a result of this, you’ll also see that changes to your vehicle, or where you live, can actually have an impact on your premium. You’re obliged to let your insurer know about any such changes. So, if you’re changing address, then you need to remember to let your insurance company know. Similarly, if you’re having any modifications carried out on your car then you’ll need to let them know in order to ensure that your insurance cover remains valid.

When it comes to car insurance, the onus is on you to be as transparent as possible. You shouldn’t try to hide information from an insurer in an attempt to drive your premiums down to lower levels. The danger associated with taking such a course of action is that it will leave you in a position where your car insurance policy is invalidated.

It’s easy to see how being in such a position could make things difficult for you. If you are involved in an accident and you’ve not declared something then you may find that you’re left looking at some expensive bills. That’s a mistake that few of us would like to make.
