So you're thinking of selling you're house? All you need to do is put it on the market and collect the money when it sells - the buyer will have to pay for the survey, land registry and all other associated costs won't they? Well...no, not quite!
It is a misconception that some people have that selling a house is a fee-free experience. Don't forget though that an estate agent will take a chunk of your money - typically maybe 2% of the value of your home. They may also charge you an "advertising fee" on top of their standard commission. Once you add on the costs of conveyancing, you may well find that the cost of selling your house runs into a few thousand pounds (depending on the value of your property).
These "hidden" costs soon add up and you need to take them into account when you look to put your house on the market. It's vital that you shop around to make sure that you're getting the best possible deal from an estate agent. If you don't spend time thinking about your approach to selling the house, then you may end up losing out in the end.
